Albarino has become wildly popular in recent years, but finding quality in the area - particularly at an accessible price point - can still be a struggle.
So we were delighted when we discovered Benito Santos a few years ago. Benito was instrumental in forming the Rias Baixas denomination back in the 1980s. His estate is certified organic, not an easy feat in the damp climate of Galicia. He only uses natural yeasts and a minimal dose of sulphur at bottling.
The result is a classic Albarino with complexity. The wine is fresh and zippy with flavours of green apple and citrus but with some tropical notes too. Clean, easy to drink, textured and utterly moreish.
