Young Gonzalo decided not to walk in his father’s footsteps, who is the head of the largest winery in Spain. Instead, he chose to focus on small production and quality. Although this makes for awkward family gatherings, we are pretty happy he decided to do this; his wines are blowing up the Rioja wine scene.
Gonzalo rents a small amount of exceptional plots in the heart of the prestigious Rioja Alta sub region. His whites are made with the rare white grape variety Tempranillo Blanco - a mutation from the red Tempranillo grape - and a touch of floral Malvasia. The wines are weighty, complex and expressive and, surprisingly, have seen no oak, just stainless steel.
The result of Gonzalo’s meticulous winemaking and excellent grapes is a full bodied but fresh and energetic white that’s perfect for the changing of the seasons.
