Gavi makes a star of the local Cortese grape variety, renowned for its freshness, lemon and green apple flavours. And this one is no exception. The difference between this and a cheaper version? The quality, concentration and length. Although full of those recognisable lemon and apple flavours, it slips down rather nicely, leaving a great flavour in the mouth.
Gavi became understandably popular in the seaside towns of Genoa (Gavi is perfect partners with fish) and then moved its way into the hearts of Brits and Italian restaurants in the 1980s.
The Marne vineyard have been cultivating the Cortese grape since 2002 and focus on organic viticulture, vinifying in stainless steel to keep the freshness and character of the variety.
