What a treat of a wine, Te Whare Ra Sauvignon Blanc is. The estate has been around since the 1970s and is currently owned by Anna and Jason Flowerday, who have winemaking in their blood.
They're passionate about organics; their 11 hectares are all farmed organically with some biodynamic intervention, and any fruit they source from elsewhere must be sustainably grown at the very least.
The Sauvignon Blanc is restrained and classy. Fermented with natural yeasts, it's all stone fruit and minerals. There is a sense of tropical fruit but it's kept in check a little. For us, it's one of the best examples of serious winemaking in Marlborough.
